 UNIT TEST TUESDAY JAN 26 - RECONSTRUCTION

Monday Jan 25th

Students completed a Henry McNeal Turner research assignment in TEAMS.  Upon completion, students continued studying for the Reconstruction exam via Quizizz/Quizlet.

Tuesday Jan 26th

Test day.  Warm ups for this unit due.

Wednesday Jan 27

Today we started a new unit, The New South.  Students interpreted an image for the warm up and then recorded important facts about the opposing political partied of the time period.  

Homework: None

Thursday Jan 28

We continued our study of the New South with a lesson on Henry Grady and the International Cotton Expositions.  

Homework: None

Friday Jan 29

Today students worked in TEAMS.  Students completed a research activity and introduced themselves to Jim Crow in the South.  

Homework: Complete and 'turn in' the Jim Crow assignment if not completed in class.

UNIT TEST TUESDAY JAN 26 - RECONSTRUCTION

Today's lesson was all about MLK Jr, his many accomplishments, and his impact on America.  

Homework: Continue studying for the quiz tomorrow Jan 20 (fill in the blank/short answer)

Wednesday Jan 20

After the quiz today, we learned about Henry McNeal Turner and the election, and subsequent removal, of black legislators in Georgia.  Students took notes on a guided note sheet.

Homework: None

Thursday Jan 21

We learned about tenant farming and sharecropping today.  Students took notes on a guided note sheet.  Afterwards, students participated in a sharecropping simulation.  

Homework: None

Friday Jan 22

After today's warm up, students completed a comprehension check of the materials we have learned over this lesson.  Afterwards, we viewed a video on sharecropping and had debate/discussion.

Week 17 Jan 11 - Jan 15

Monday Jan 11

Students completed a study guide about the Civil War Amendments using TEAMS today.  Here is a copy of the information about the Civil War Amendments.  

Homework: Complete the study guide if not completed in class.   

Tuesday Jan 12

Today we compared the different Reconstruction Plans.  Students filled in an advanced organizer and recorded facts from a video.  

Homework: None 

Wednesday Jan 13

Using information from yesterday's lesson on the different Reconstruction plans, students created their own Reconstruction plan.  

Homework: Complete the Reconstruction assignment if not completed in class.

Thursday Jan 14

Today we learned about the Freedman's Bureau and the Ku Klux Klan.  Students recorded notes on a guided note sheet.  After the lesson, students completed a Freedman's Bureau reading comprehension.  

There will be a quiz on Wednesday Jan 20th (fill in the blank/short answer).

Homework: Civil War Amendments questions.  Due at the beginning of class tomorrow.

Today we read and answered questions from a background essay on abolition.  Social studies is working in conjunction with ELA on this assignment.

Today we read a poem and a speech about slavery and civil/women's rights.  Students answered questions and we discussed as a class.

Wednesday Dec 9

Students received their semester exam study guide and began filling it in.  We also reviewed for the test using various online formats.  

Homework: Fill in study guide and study for the semester exam.

Thursday Dec 10

We continued filling in the study guide and reviewed using various online review websites.

Friday Dec 11

We read and answered questions from the last of the abolition documents.   Students answered questions and we discussed as a class.

Week 14 Nov 30 - Dec 4

Monday Nov 30

After today's warm up (a discussion of what we did over the break), students completed a scaled down version of a choice board.  Students chose and completed any two assignments.

Homework: Complete choiceboard if not completed in class.  

Tuesday Dec 1

Students worked in TEAMS and are creating a PowerPoint to describe key events that led to the Civil War.  Today students worked on part one (of three) of this project.  This will be the summative assessment (test grade) for the Civil War in Georgia.  

Homework: Complete part 1 of the ppt if not completed in class.  

Wednesday Dec 2

Students continued working in TEAMS and creating a PowerPoint to describe key events of the Civil War.  Today students worked on part two (of three) of this project.  This will be the summative assessment (test grade) for the Civil War in Georgia. 

Homework: Complete part 2 of the ppt if not completed in class.  

Thursday Dec 3

Students worked in groups to solve different puzzles relating to the Civil War.  This 'escape room' activity enhances student knowledge of key events of the Civil War

Homework: Complete the ppt if not already completed.  All three parts of the project are due by the end of the period tomorrow.  

Friday Dec 4

Students worked on the third part of their Civil War in Georgia assessment.  Students worked in TEAMS and completed a writing assignment.  This assignment counts as 40% of the assessment grade.

Week 13 Nov 16 - Nov 20

Students researched 3 key events of the Civil War: The Georgia Secession Convention, Advantages of the North/South, and the Emancipation Proclamation. Students accessed the documents in TEAMS.  Students completed an advanced organizer in class.  

Homework: Complete the organizer if not completed in class.  

Tuesday November 17

Students continued to research events/battles of the Civil War in Georgia.  Students completed a web quest about key events in Ga.  The assignment can be found in TEAMS.

Wednesday Nov 18

Today we learned more about Andersonville Prison.  Students took notes on a guided note sheet.  We also viewed a short video about Andersonville.
